| Martin Li is a writer and photographer based in London. He
earlier studied physics at Cambridge University and worked for several years in corporate
finance in the City of London. His main travel interests are wildernesses and remote,
hideaway destinations in the developed world. A keen skier, horserider and trekker, he has
a passion for exploring the adventure and culture of the worlds great mountain
regions (although not for climbing them!), especially the Himalayas, Alps and, above all,
the Andean countries of South America. He writes for Travel Intelligence, a London-based
publisher and syndicate, and various publications including ABTA Travelspirit, Yeahbaby,
South American Explorer, Scottish
Islands Explorer, Marco Polo
Magazine, Transitions Abroad
and Kuoni World.
Martin is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical
Society.
Wilderness Award Martin won the 2005 Wilderness Award for an exciting adventure
riding a mule across some of the most remote, rugged and beautiful wilderness in the
Bolivian and Peruvian Andes. His quest is to trace the rise and fall of the Inca empire
from its birthplace in Lake Titicaca, to its pinnacle at Machu Picchu and beyond to its
final stand in the densely forested mountains of Vilcabamba.
